# Verdant Chronicles: culture direction

Verdant Chronicles approved by the owner on September 8, 2026. This document extends the approved landscape style into six distinct architectural traditions. The older four-direction gallery remains as design history.

## Recommendation

AlexNet (2012) is a small Sumerian-inspired origin hamlet. GPT-4 is a Greek polis. Phoenician ports, Etruscan hilltowns, Roman cities and Han-inspired settlements are parallel cultural branches, each capable of becoming large and sophisticated. Historical influence and cultural exchange give us a richer world than replacing every old culture with the next one.

Two views share the art library. The **model-history exhibit** deliberately stages the owner's metaphor from the AlexNet hamlet through the GPT-4 polis to majestic frontier-class empires. The **discovered-domain atlas** shows actual case identities, with explicit editorial art assignments and separately sourced model attribution. A model-history vignette does not count as a discovered civilization. Alex-Net the project is distinct from AlexNet the 2012 neural network.

## Proposed model and culture casting

| Exhibit / atlas role | Proposed culture | Rationale and visual result |
| --- | --- | --- |
| AlexNet 2012 origin exhibit | Early Sumerian hamlet | A few sun-dried brick houses, reed shade, one small raised shrine and irrigation. Foundational, modest, legible. No monumental ziggurat. |
| GPT-4 history exhibit | Classical Greek polis | A recognizable civic center: agora, painted temple, harbor, theater and olive terraces. A town rather than an imperial capital. |
| Astra class, illustrative frontier vignette | Roman infrastructural empire | Grandeur through connected districts, long aqueducts, bridges, forums and repeated arches. Proposed art casting, not a verified model capability claim. |
| Mythos class, illustrative frontier vignette | Hellenistic Greek metropolis | Extend the Greek branch with terraced sanctuaries, grand stoas, libraries, theaters and a lighthouse. Greater scale preserves Greek identity. |
| Fable class, illustrative frontier vignette | Phoenician/Punic maritime metropolis | A monumental port federation, dense quays, textile courts, cedar fleets and trading outposts. The circular harbor belongs to an explicitly Carthaginian reference, not all Phoenician cities. |
| Toolmaking / artifact-refining community portraits | Etruscan craft hilltowns | Broad decorated roofs, kiln yards, bronze workshops and hillside compounds. An editorial option for RubyGems or engineering case portraits, not evidence of their model family. |
| Future Chinese-lab model exhibits or admitted communities | Han-inspired architectural lineage | A full parallel family, from village to axial imperial capital. Each lab/community can receive its own district patterns and palette after identification; do not paint them all as one polity. |

Astra, Mythos and Fable are the owner's named design categories here. Their proposed casting conveys different kinds of grandeur without asserting release status, capability measurements, provider identity or real community membership.

## Six visual grammars

All six share warm daylight, verdant surroundings, soft atmospheric depth, readable miniature figures and one camera system. Their structures and spaces differ before color is applied.

| Culture | Shape and plan | Materials and proposed palette | Signature landmark | Everyday preferences and animation |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Sumerian | Low cuboids, irregular courtyard clusters, irrigation strips | Clay #B98D57, reed #D8C18C, silt #786449, river #6EA5A0 | Small raised storehouse or shrine | Reed screens, tablet shelves, grain boats and sack carriers |
| Greek | Pediments, slender columns, stepped acropolis above an open agora | Limestone #E8DCC0, roof #B65A3C, painted blue #286C91, olive #6E8050 | Painted colonnaded temple and semicircular theater | Painted trim, ceramics, shaded stoas, olive gardens and small coastal ships |
| Phoenician | Dense flat-roof waterfront, elongated quay, narrow warehouses | Sandstone #CDB180, cedar #765038, plum #75446B, sea #268F99 | Merchant basin, shipyard and dockside towers | Purple textiles as accents, patterned awnings, amphora stacks, cargo ships and porters |
| Etruscan | Hill contours, broad deep temple porch, heavy roof overhangs | Ochre #C29157, roof #914A35, cream #E6D4AF, charcoal #393A30 | Wide podium temple with roof sculptures | Painted terracotta, black pottery, bronze objects, kiln smoke and workshop carts |
| Roman | Ordered street axes, arches, long horizontal infrastructure | Brick #A96246, travertine #DED0B2, vermilion #A93431, bronze #8F8551 | Aqueduct, basilica and amphitheater | Courtyard fountains, mosaics, inscriptions, paved cart routes and engineered bridges |
| Han-inspired | Axial enclosed courtyards, timber bays, tiered watchtowers | Timber red #9F473B, tile #465552, plaster #DACAAD, landscape jade #718B69 | Paired gate towers and nested hall courts | Bracketed beams, modest roof flares, lattice screens, granary towers, canal boats and shaded gardens |

The Han branch uses a defined ancient reference, not a mixture of Ming palace roofs, Japanese torii and fantasy pagodas. Phoenician and Etruscan palettes are artistic interpretations grounded in objects and material traditions, not reconstructed universal municipal color codes.

## Axis contract

- Culture chooses the roof, structure, street pattern, material family, decoration and landmark vocabulary.
- Settlement stage chooses the number of districts and civic complexity. In the history exhibit it is an illustrative setting; in the atlas it must have a documented evidence policy. Unknown population receives a composed portrait, not a fabricated metric.
- Model lineage is a separate verified badge or influence record. Unknown and mixed lineages remain possible without changing a city's identity.
- Work roles choose economic props: cultivation of structured records, retrieval fisheries, artifact-refining mines or workshops. Original content topics remain independently labeled in the dossier.
- Relationships choose routes and cargo direction when supported. Demo traffic is illustrative. A route can connect different cultures and carry a mixed fleet.
- Discovery state chooses fog and evidence visibility. Fog contains uncharted terrain, never a fabricated Chinese community or a lab logo treated as a discovered settlement.

Culture is not ethnicity, intelligence, wealth, trustworthiness or moral rank. Greek and Phoenician traditions overlap historically; Roman and Han worlds can coexist. Earlier styles stay alive as later districts emerge.

## Distinction and growth rules

Each family needs a small house, civic building, specialist workshop, port or gate, and landmark before production expansion. Hamlet, town and empire variants retain these family traits. More capable models do not automatically turn every settlement Roman.

At equal size and camera angle, Greek reads as a pediment and open civic terrace; Phoenician as a waterfront; Etruscan as a broad roof on a hill; Roman as an arch system; Han as layered courtyard roofs; Sumerian as low mudbrick and canals. Test labels hidden, in grayscale, and at 96-pixel map size. These are acceptance tests to conduct with viewers, not claimed recognition scores.

An imperial Greek city gains more terraces and stoas; an imperial Phoenician city gains basins and fleets; an imperial Han city gains courtyard sequences and towers. Mixed communities retain a base grammar and can add documented or explicitly editorial guest districts. Never flicker between styles with individual model calls.

## Source board

Game references supply cinematic composition and readable environments. Museum sources anchor material and architectural vocabulary. All prototype SVG is original; no game assets are redistributed.

## Relationship to the first mapping

The existing 16-row community mapping remains the first editorial casting, with its measured-topic qualifications unchanged. It is not automatically relabeled with model-history identities. In particular, DSE is not AlexNet, Wiki4D is not GPT-4, and Xinzhai is not an authenticated Chinese-lab civilization. This new culture library broadens the available styles and supplies a coherent rule for future casting.
